The Parramatta River and its catchment spans 266 square kilometres, with over 750,000 people from 13 local government areas living within its catchment area.

Up until the 1950s, it was still used for swimming and was the focal point of many social activities. Some spots are still swimmable at times but most are either no longer swimmable due to poor water quality and/or lack of appropriate infrastructure.

To find out where you can swim or where you would like to swim use the map above by clicking on a location.

Before swimming at any recommended location, it is important to make sure the water quality is suitable by visiting the Beachwatch website.
