The PRCG was delighted to celebrate the opening of Bedlam Bay in Gladesville on 28 November alongside member organisations Hunter’s Hill Council and Sydney Water. The site was officially launched by the Minister for Water, the Hon. Rose Jackson, and Mayor Zac Miles, who both recognised the PRCG’s ongoing work to improve river health and the importance of creating more natural swim spots for the community.
Delivered by Hunter’s Hill Council as part of the PRCG’s Masterplan, and supported by NSW Government funding, Bedlam Bay joins Putney Beach, which opened in January, along with the five existing swim sites in the catchment: Bayview Park, Cabarita Park beach, Chiswick Baths, Dawn Fraser Baths, and Lake Parramatta.
Sydney Water’s RiverWatch® program reports the safety of swim sites like Bedlam Bay with regular water quality testing. A Human Health Risk Assessment, undertaken in partnership with NSW Health, the EPA, and other experts, confirmed there are no chemical risks for swimmers.
The PRCG congratulates Hunter’s Hill Council and acknowledges the contributions of all member organisations in achieving this milestone. Planning is underway for three more swim sites at Callan Park (Lilyfield), Mort Bay (Birchgrove), and Cockatoo Island.
