Designing with Country – Lower Parramatta River Walk on Country and Design Jam

The first of our workshops for our Designing with Country project was held on 9 March. Aboriginal community members and representatives from some of our member councils and other agencies joined us for a half-day Walk on Country at several sites in the lower Parramatta River catchment.

This was followed by a ‘Design Jam’ run by design consultant Yerrabingin who helped the group to share stories and consider different perspectives and ideas that will contribute to the development of a catchment-wide design framework for future interpretive design projects. Many thanks to everyone who came along to support the event.

The workshop for the upper Parramatta River was postponed due to the number of people attending who were affected by the recent flooding. Our thoughts are with them, and we look forward to seeing them at the workshop which has been rescheduled to 27 April.

We are also working with Yerrabingin on a research study of the Aboriginal history and culture of the Parramatta River, and exploration of how Country should be recognised, managed and accessed today. Find out more.
