The Parramatta River Catchment Group (PRCG) has received $80,000 from the NSW EPA’s Waste and Sustainable Materials Strategy 2041 Litter Prevention Grants Program to deliver strategic initiatives aimed at reducing litter across the catchment.

Key actions include analysing existing research, such as studies from the EPA, Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils, and other catchment groups, refining the Greater Sydney Harbour Regional Litter Prevention Strategy (2021–2030), and establishing baseline metrics using the Own it and Act framework. The project will also involve Australian Litter Measure (ALM) studies to identify litter hotspots, build capacity among PRCG member agencies, and develop an integrated litter prevention roadmap for the catchment.

These efforts will be closely aligned with the NSW Litter Prevention Strategy (2022–2030) that aims to reduce all litter items by 60% by 2030 and reduce plastics litter items by 30% by 2025. Find out more: NSW Litter Prevention Strategy | EPA
