Have your say on our draft Regional Litter Prevention Strategy for Greater Sydney Harbour

The Sydney Coastal Councils Group (SCCG) and Parramatta River Catchment Group (PRCG) are working on a Regional Litter Prevention Strategy for the Greater Sydney Harbour catchment.

A draft of the Regional Litter Prevention Strategy is now open for consultation and we’d like your feedback and ideas on ways to prevent litter.

Click here to read the full draft Regional Litter Prevention Strategy.

The strategy outlines the following actions that support the NSW Government’s targets to reduce litter by 60% by 2030 and plastics by 30% by 2025:

  1. Provide a regional approach to litter prevention
  2. Reduce the volume of litter entering Sydney Harbour and associated waterways through litter prevention
  3. Embed litter reduction activities into council policy, strategy and programs.

We know the many communities across Greater Sydney Harbour want clean and healthy waterways and public places. The community is also concerned about the broader impact of litter on marine life.

Community volunteers from across the catchment have developed many innovative projects to encourage their communities to pick up litter. The Litter Prevention Strategy responds to the aspirations of communities for healthy waterways and the marine environment and will set a way forward for litter prevention.

The consultation is open until 4:00pm on Monday, 6 December.

You can comment on the strategy by email to: sue@sydneycoastalcouncils.com.au or let us know what you think via a short survey.
