The Parramatta River Catchment Group (PRCG) was privileged to participate in the ‘Barduu Ngaadjung’ First Nations Water Forum, hosted by Greater Sydney Local Land Services and Western Sydney University, with support from the Cumberland Plain Conservation Plan and Penrith City Council.
The forum highlighted the cultural and environmental significance of water in Ngurra (Country), particularly along the Hawkesbury-Nepean River. Discussions covered First Laws, the Rights of Nature movement, First Nations governance, and First Nations women’s stories of the river. Participants also signed a Declaration for Water Country, committing to the care of waterways in partnership with Traditional Custodians.
A highlight of the event was a moving performance by Uncle Noel and Aunty Trish. It was a meaningful day of truth-telling and reflection, deepening our understanding of Country and renewing our shared commitment to care for and protect our waterways.
